Dear life...sometimes you suck!

I truly loathe pain, and sickness. Especially when it's my child and I am completely helpless. We have been battling hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) in our house. Maybe you've heard of it? Well, if not it is one of the most frustrating temporary illnesses a child can get. At first we thought it was Chicken Pox or Spring fever. It starts with a slight fever and leads you to believe there are new teeth coming. Then the rash starts.

In just 24 short hours our little man went from this:

To this...

Believe it or not it actually got worse than this.
Then it started to (finally) dry out and subside...

Yesterday he felt pretty good so we took a nice long walk and took advantage of the beautiful 80 degree weather and tested out the new splash pad. He was pretty mad at first because I didn't ease him into it...oops! I forget that the hose water up here is way colder than in Florida.

And finally this morning he looks like this....

Hopefully by tomorrow it will all be gone and we can move on.

If you ever come across HFMD the two things that worked best for us was oatmeal baths and Aquaphor on the rash to protect it from friction. Oh and watch out for the watery poops!

The disease can live up to 3 months in feces! So don't expose anyone else, be careful when changing diapers in public.

PS Happy 8 month birthday Cannerpots! We love you! :)

  1. Hey Kate,

If he's still having watery poops, check into getting some Florastor Kids. You have to get it from behind the counter but it's a powder you put in his bottle or juice. He's a probiotic and it does wonders on the tummy and helps with the poops. I give it to my daughter every time she is on antibiotics which I'm sure you know mess up their little tummies and it helps so so much. Poor guy! Hope he's feeling better.

  2. Sorry, my computer was messing up...should say "it's a probiotic" and "behind the pharmacy counter at the grocery store" :-)
